Shandong Western Han Dynasty tomb unearthed the treasure of the town experts: the history of the wrong write

In 1972, a worker named Meng Jihua found a tomb of the Western Han Dynasty in Yinchishan, Linyi, Shandong Province, promptly reported the news, in the experts’ efforts to excavate, in this tomb unearthed a town treasure, and the unearthing of this treasure let experts suspect that part of the history may be wrongly written, next we will look at the discovery of this treasure in the end what is it?

In fact, it is the “silver sparrow mountain Han tomb bamboo slips”, I believe that many people must have heard, in these bamboo slips, experts saw the above are slips instrument style, belongs to the early official book, thus inferring that it belongs to the Western Han Dynasty Wenjing period to the early period of Emperor Wu’s products.

These books and slips have a total of 4942 complete and residual slips, the content mainly covers the ancient books of the pre-Qin Dynasty and ancient anonymous books, and they are all handwritten in the Western Han Dynasty, they have an important guiding role in the study of Chinese military, history, writing and so on. Among them is the bamboo book “The Art of War”, which was listed as one of the nine national treasures of China in 2012.

There are two kinds of bamboo slips unearthed in this tomb, which are ancient anonymous books and biographical books, among which ancient anonymous books account for most of them, and the slips and biographical books are interleaved. Some of the books in these bamboo slips, before they were unearthed, were thought to be pseudo-books of later generations, but this excavation has thoroughly confirmed that they existed and were transmitted long ago in the Western Han Dynasty.

When they were first unearthed, some of these books and slips had suffered damage. In order to better protect these bamboo slips and to know the contents recorded on them, experts were the first to salvage and restore them.

After the restoration, the experts found that most of these bamboo slips were military books, some of which had been lost before the Han Dynasty, and among these books, the most exciting for the experts were the two books “Sun Tzu’s Art of War” and “Sun Bin’s Art of War”.

We know that “The Art of War” has a very important influence in China and even all over the world, but because there are so few records about this book in our ancient books, and some experts believe that there is no Sun Wu and Sun Bin in history, they are actually the same person, and there are no two books of war, there is only one. At present, most people believe that Sun Bin and his calligraphy never existed at all, but were derived by later generations on the basis of Sun Wu.

It may also be influenced by this speculation, so the book we see in bookstores now is basically The Art of War, and it is hard to find Sun Bin’s Art of War, and what most students learn is also the content of The Art of War.

However, this lost book “Sun Bin’s Art of War” unearthed in Yinchu Mountain overturned people’s speculation, and it clearly proved that Sun Bin existed in history, and the book “Sun Bin’s Art of War” written by him is also real, and the content of this book has a backward and forward relationship with “Sun Tzu’s Art of War”, which plays an important supplementary significance to the study of Chinese art of war.

The simultaneous unearthing of Sun Tzu’s The Art of War and Sun Bin’s The Art of War caused a huge reaction in the world, and they were also called “one of the top ten archaeological works in China in the past 30 years”.

For example, in the battle of Guiling in Qi and Wei, Pang Juan was not mentioned in the book of History, but only in the battle of Ma Ling 13 years later, the suicide of Pang Juan was mentioned.

And we saw a different version in the unearthed Sun Bin Art of War this time, in which it was written that Sun Bin captured Pang Juan in Gui Ling. Through the multiple information that we have now, experts believe that it is indeed possible that Sun Bin captured Pang Juan in Gui Ling and not in Ma Ling, so it is said that the Book of History about this part may have been written wrongly.

The reason why archaeology is so fascinating is that it can help us unravel historical mysteries and help us overturn existing historical knowledge.
