In order to restart transatlantic relations, the European Union will temporarily suspend the implementation of countermeasures introduced in response to the U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs, said Valdis Dombrovskis, executive vice president of the European Commission, on social media, as quoted by mainland media.
He said the move would create conditions for Europe and the United States to find a common solution to the steel and aluminum tariff dispute. The Europe-U.S. steel and aluminum tariff dispute began in June 2018 when the U.S. government imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum products from Europe, Asia and other regions, citing threats to national security.
