Communist China further restricts Taiwan’s international space through “vaccine diplomacy

Honduras, a Central American diplomatic country of Taiwan, earlier indicated it might set up a commercial office in China to obtain the New Crown vaccine. Without naming Beijing, a U.S. State Department spokesperson condemned the use of life-saving medical aid, such as vaccines, for political purposes.

A State Department spokesperson told Reuters that Taiwan’s relationships with countries, including Honduras, reinforce democratic values and support sustainable development, emphasizing that the United States will stand with Honduras in challenging times.

Beijing continues to export the New Crown vaccine to developing countries, including Latin American countries, but not to Taiwan’s diplomatic neighbors such as Honduras and Guatemala. Taiwan accuses Beijing of using the vaccine as a diplomatic invasion of Taiwan’s allies.
