Myanmar has been under a military coup for more than three months, and many civilians have been killed in the streets during protests by the military government. Khet Thi, a poet, and his wife Chaw Su were arrested by the police and separated for questioning, but when Chaw Su saw Khet Thi again after one night, he was already cold and his internal organs had been emptied.

According to Reuters, the 45-year-old poet Katy wrote a poem against the military government, “They shot me in the head, but they don’t know that the revolution is in their hearts. Katy and his wife Xiao Su were taken away by police on Saturday (8) for separate questioning.

Xiao Su said the police said Katy was interrogated at the interrogation center, but he did not return home that night until he received a phone call in the morning and the police said Katy was in the hospital. At that time, it was thought that Katy had met something like a broken hand, but when she arrived she saw her husband’s gutted remains.

Xiao Su noted that the hospital said Katy had heart problems, but she was pretty sure the hospital was lying. The army intended to bury Katy’s body, and only after she begged was she allowed to bring him back. Xiao Su did not explain how she discovered that her husband’s internal organs had been removed.

The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, a human rights group, said Katy died after being tortured in an interrogation center, and that at least 780 civilians have been killed since the coup in Burma.
