McCarthy endorses New York congresswoman as No. 3 House Republican

Amid growing concerns among House Republicans about the leadership of the party’s No. 3, Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, House Republican front-runner Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Sunday (May 9) publicly stated his support for the No. 3 House Republican to be replaced by New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik. He said that he supports the replacement of Cheney with New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik as the No. 3 Republican in the House.

McCarthy said in an interview Sunday that Cheney, who currently serves as House Republican chairman, must be the spokesman for the party’s action goals, including the goal of taking back the House majority in 2022.

When asked in the Fox News interview whether he supports Stefanik, McCarthy said bluntly, “Yes, I do.”

“To defeat (House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the socialist agenda, we need to come together. It starts with leadership.” McCarthy said, “That’s why we’re going to vote next week. We want to be united and move forward. I think that’s what’s going to happen.”

Next Wednesday, House Republicans will hold a new vote against removing Cheney as chairman. Cheney survived the first round of recall votes earlier this year.

“We’re talking about leadership.” McCarthy told Fox News, “We’re fighting one of the biggest battles ever for this country and this direction, whether or not the next century will belong to our direction.”

Cheney disagrees with many Republicans in his party.
