U.S., Japan and France joint military exercises from 11 French warships into Sasebo port

The Japanese Self-Defense Forces, U.S. and French forces are scheduled to hold joint military exercises in Kyushu, Japan from 11 to 17, the first time the French forces have participated in a joint military exercise in Japan. The French Navy’s amphibious assault ship entered the port of Sasebo in Kyushu’s Nagasaki Prefecture on the morning of the 9th.

Japan’s “Nagasaki Broadcasting” (NBC) reported that the French Navy’s amphibious assault ship Raiden (Tonnerre) and the submarine Surcouf (Surcouf) berth in Sasebo port in Nagasaki Prefecture on the 9th.

The Tonnerre is about 200 meters long and can carry up to 18 helicopters, playing the role of the core of amphibious operations warships. These two French warships will participate in the joint military exercises of the United States, Japan and France held in Kyushu Island and surrounding waters from 11 onwards.

Due to the expansion of the current epidemic in Nagasaki Prefecture, the officers and men of the two French warships will stay in the SDF base and will not eat in Sasebo City’s restaurants.

The report said that during the joint military exercises of the 3 countries, French officers and soldiers may be in Sasebo City, Sagamiura garrison and Japan’s Land Self-Defense Force amphibious mobile regiment for joint military exercises.
