Nearly half of Asian respondents in Germany say they experienced racial discrimination during the epidemic

Discrimination against Asians is widespread in German society, according to the Neue Deutsche Zeitung. A German survey revealed that almost half of the Asian respondents complained of experiencing racial discrimination during the New Crown (CCP) virus pandemic.

In the fall of 2020, the Free University of Berlin, Humboldt University and the German Center for Integration and Migration Studies conducted a questionnaire survey with thousands of participants under the title “The New Crown Crisis and Anti-Asian Discrimination in Germany”. The results of the survey, which are only partially representative, show that almost half of the Asian respondents themselves (49%) have experienced discrimination during the Neocon (CCP virus) epidemic. 62% of the cases were verbal attacks. Eleven percent were even subjected to physical violence, for example, being spat on, pushed and sprayed with disinfectant. About 4,500 people were interviewed for the survey, including about 700 people from Asia. Most of the attacks occurred on the street or on the way to take public transportation.

The survey also showed that 27 percent were ostracized by institutions. For example, not getting an appointment at a hospital. About 15 percent of those surveyed agreed with the statement that Asians “are responsible for the rapid spread of the New Guinea virus pandemic in Germany. But the vast majority, nearly 85 percent, disagreed.

To date, there has been little research on anti-Asian racism. Since the new crown (CCP virus) pandemic, there has been a marked increase in international cases of discrimination and racism. The German Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency received almost double the number of inquiries last year compared to 2019, from about 3,600 to more than 6,000 cases. About a quarter of the inquiries in the past year were related to discrimination related to the new crown (CCP virus) virus, and inquiries were often directed at people allegedly from Asia.
