Catholic League: Devotee Biden’s failure to mention God in prayer ‘perplexing’ not a good sign

The Breitbart News reported on May 8 that Biden supporters say Biden is “devoutly Catholic” and even “very Catholic. However, Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, said Friday that Biden’s National Day of Prayer speech, in which he did not even mention God, was “at least puzzling and, to put it seriously, offensive.

In his May 7 article, Dr. Donohue wrote that Biden’s approach was “unprecedented” and that “no former president has failed to mention God since 1952, the day it was created by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry Truman.

According to Breitbart News, Biden mentioned the Communist virus epidemic, racial justice and the “existential threat of climate change” in his May 6 speech, but somehow failed to mention God. The closest Biden came to saying in his speech was that “humans are the most active connection to the divine on the planet.

Donohue noted that “the Democratic Party is the home of secularists” for whom it is a shame to talk about God.” Those without religious beliefs, as well as agnostics and atheists, have taken root in the Democratic Party, many of whom are openly hostile to religion and people of faith.”

Last December, the group Secular Democrats for America submitted a 28-page report to Biden and Harris that essentially wanted to secularize religious institutions and cut out most religious exemptions.

Donohue wrote that those who loathe prayer can ignore the National Day of Prayer, “but those who choose to participate want to pay homage to God, which is why Biden’s approach is, at the very least, puzzling and, to be serious, offensive.”

Donohue concluded, “Biden’s comments reflect the sentiments of the people running the White House in terms of what’s not a good sign for Biden or the Biden administration, and not a good sign for America.”
