The Daily Caller News reported on May 6 that a review of business records, interviews and social media posts by the Daily Caller News Foundation found that Patrisse Cullors, co-founder and executive director of Black Lives Matter’s nationwide headquarters, funneled business from Black Lives Matter to the father of her only child .
According to business records, interviews and archived versions of the company’s website, the company, Trap Heals, was founded just days before it partnered with the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, which later became Black Lives Matter’s “arts and cultural work. Trap Heals later became the organization’s “primary developer of artistic and cultural work.
Two other activist groups, led by Cullers, also paid Trap Cure a total of $238,000 to produce live election night broadcasts and provide consulting services, campaign finance records show.
In numerous public references to their work, Cullers and Damon Turner, the head of Trap Cure, have not disclosed that they have a child. But on at least one occasion, Turner said Cullers was directly involved in Trap Cure’s work with the Black Lives Matter Global Network.
Laurie Styron, executive director of the watchdog group CharityWatch, told the Daily Caller News Foundation that when large payments are expected, the nonprofit’s board should choose the best provider and “any interested parties should recuse themselves.
However, a statement from the group of 10 Black Lives Matter chapters said the Black Lives Matter Global Network has “only one board member,” Cullers, who also served as executive director of the Black Lives Matter Global Network in July of last year. The local chapter said this was “against the wishes of the majority of chapters and without their knowledge.” In a report detailing its 2020 accomplishments, the Black Lives Matter Global Network identified Kules as co-founder and executive director.
Local chapters of Black Lives Matter, which last November accused the Black Lives Matter Global Network of providing little to no support to local groups, have not provided acceptable financial transparency since its inception in 2013.
The report filed by the Daily Caller News Foundation said the Black Lives Matter Global Network spent a total of $4.5 million on salaries, consultants and travel in fiscal years 2017, 2018 and 2019, a figure that encompasses the group’s three-year period, according to audited financial statements prepared by its former fiscal sponsor, the California-based charity Thousand Currents. 83.3% of total expenses.
However, during the same period, the Black Lives Matter Global Network provided only $328,000 to local organizations, such as local, independent and autonomous Black Lives Matter chapters across the country, which are responsible for carrying out the Black Lives Matter Global Network’s mission, according to Cullers.
