In the afternoon of May 4, Yunlong Bai, a 42-year-old Chinese man, turned himself in to police and killed his wife in their home. Yunlong Bai is currently in custody on $1.13 million bail.
According to Irvine Police Department spokeswoman Karie Davies, the murder occurred at a home on Red Apple Street in a gated community near Alton Parkway Parkway and Royal Oak Road in Irvine. Irvine Police were called to the scene of the homicide on Red Apple Street in Irvine at approximately 1:00 p.m. on the 4th.
Officers arrived at the home of the victim and suspect and located Yunlong Bai and another male at the murder house. They placed the female victim on the kitchen floor. The female victim, who was lying on the floor, showed signs of trauma and appeared to be deceased. Later, Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) deputies arrived to assist and confirmed the woman was deceased. The victim was identified as Chao Chen, 33, who had been married to her killer husband, Yunlong Bai, for 13 years. Meaning, the victim, Chao Chen, was married to Bai Yunlong at age 20 and died at his hands at age 33.
Irvine Police Department detectives determined that the second male seen in the victim’s home was her tenant and was not involved in the murder, and that he sublet one of the rooms in the murder house.
According to Irvine Police Department information, the Orange County Police Coroner will conduct an autopsy on the victim’s remains to determine the cause of death. Currently, Yunlong Bai is under arrest on murder charges and has been sent to the Orange County Jail to be held on $1.13 million bail.
