The biggest fraud in the history of China’s chips, civilian workers hand-grinding chips, fake deception of academicians

In 2001, Chen Jin returned from the United States.

While teaching at Shanghai Jiaotong University, he took up an extremely important position as the director of the Chip and System Research Center, officially launching the notorious “Hanxin Project”.

The Hanxin research was intended to narrow the gap with Europe and the United States in terms of chips, but in the midst of a series of lies by Chen Jin, it gradually evolved into the biggest scam in China’s chip history, causing China’s chip development to stagnate for more than a decade.

How magical realism is this scam?

Fiction often needs to talk about logic, while real life in a variety of light and strange but no logic to speak of.

Chen Jin, a returnee, faked his resume and profession, but served as the head of Hanxin research, bought a Motorola chip, hired a decorator to grind off the logo with sandpaper, and transformed it into his own research result, eventually cheating up to 1.1 billion R&D funds ……

The decorator responsible for polishing the logo was later hailed as “the leader of the innovative spirit of the civilian industry in this century” by various media frantic search.

This superb frosting technology, without any flaw to deal with Motorola chip marks, and then restore its original “face”, this a wonderful polishing, so that all the countrymen fascinated by the fall, and finally let us lose trust, only regret and helplessness ……

In the subsequent process of chip development, although Chen Jin is also a technical origin, but the profession is biased towards system applications, and does not understand the chip development.

Chen Jin, born in Fujian in July 1968, received his bachelor’s degree from Tongji University in July 1991 and went to study in the United States in January of the following year, and received his doctorate from the University of Texas six years later, with his main research direction being the design and testing of large-scale integrated circuits. He has worked for IBM, Motorola and other well-known companies in the United States.

Although Chen Jin invited his former classmates and Motorola colleagues to join the research, but the entire laboratory is also the two people with R & D capabilities, the rest of the supporting staff are the University’s research institutes and masters.

And the chip industry is known for the difficulty of research and development, known as the crown of modern industrial technology, even with a stable R & D team, it is impossible to achieve overnight. To give a less appropriate example, the nature of chip research is like building a castle on a beach, one must build a strong enough “foundation” in order to keep building upwards, it is impossible to create a tower in the air out of thin air.

The entire “Hanxin” laboratory, only two people have the ability to research and development, it is completely impossible to create a decent chip, so in this case, Chen Jin began his own “cheating” road ……

During an exchange trip to the United States, Chen Jin reached a consensus with his former Motorola colleagues and successfully downloaded the source code of one of its internal chips. After that, he used the source code to create the so-called Hanxin, which passed various tests and inspections, but the chip was not authorized, and although the source code had been obtained, it still could not be used, and even the most basic system demonstration was not competent.

But at this time, Chen Jin had already come up with a brilliant plan – to conceal it from the world. He first asked his brother in the United States, the purchase of a batch of real authentic chips, and then transported back to complete the live demonstration, in order to achieve the purpose of concealment.

In order to remove the logos on the Motorola chips for his own use, Chen Jin “genius” found a decoration company to undertake his own office decoration, to ask an ordinary frosted civilian workers, the use of its exquisite technology to grind off the original mark, and then replace it with his own development of “Han core “A trick to steal the pillar of the civet cat for the prince was created.

After completing all these preparations, on February 26, 2003, Chen Jin officially released “Hanxin 1”.

The chip, the size of a fingernail, was tested by a series of integrated circuit teams and expert groups, and its performance was fully qualified, even catching up with the world’s advanced level at the time.

The researchers’ opinion was basically the same: Shanghai Hanxin 1 had reached the international advanced level and was an important milestone in the history of China’s chip development.

The chip, which was called the first of its kind in China and a milestone in the field of microelectronics, was once called China’s pride. At one time it was called the pride of China. The report at that time said:- “Designed with the internationally advanced 0.18 micron semiconductor process, it has 2.5 million devices on an integrated block only half the size of a fingernail, and has a 32-bit arithmetic processing core that can perform 200 million operations per second.” “This achievement is close to international advanced technology, and in some aspects the performance even exceeds similar foreign products.”

Chen Jin’s so-called Hancore can certainly catch up with foreign advanced level, because it is originally a piece of sandpaper to change its name to “foreign goods”.

Since then, Chen Jin has been on a roll and has applied for up to 1.1 billion yuan in research funding. He knows the importance of striking while the iron is hot, and in the following years he quickly launched Hancore II, III and IV.

Although the model was updated every year, why was it never commercially available? This question has aroused the suspicion of countless people, but at this time the scenery of Chen Jin, still immersed in the glory of the construction of lies, unwilling to wake up… A lie cannot be maintained forever, a lie needs to be covered up by artless lies, just like the emperor’s new clothes will be exposed in the hot sun one day.

In January 2006, the wind rose and the sky was cold.

On Tsinghua University’s internal BBS (campus forum), an anonymous post suddenly issued questions about Chen Jin, and these questions are not just a matter of faith ……

The anonymous whistleblower claimed: “Although Chen Jin is also doing technology, but biased towards system applications, so do not know about chip development.

Chen Jin asked me to find the civilian workers of the renovation company to grind the chips, and told me to cover up that the original printed on the chips was the word Shanghai Chuangqi, and now to change the wording. When I saw the chips, the original lettering on them was blurred and had long been worn off by coarse sandpaper, and the scratches were very, very obvious.”

“Today I still have one fake core in my hand, and the other nine are in the hands of Chen Jin. The one I have has been used as an exhibit provided to the panel, so it has been put away.”

In 2005, during a dinner, I was talking with my colleagues who were doing technology and marketing. Since the division of labor at Hancore was very thin, we usually didn’t know each other’s fields. So, stringing together the part of Hancore that they knew from the chat, everyone discovered the truth.” Not to mention that the so-called blueprint Chen Jin wove at the beginning became a prop to hoodwink us, and we wasted two whole years of our youth to become a tool for him to make money. –Anonymous Poster

A stone stirred up a thousand waves, people from all walks of life have been questioned, according to the subsequent investigation found that Chen Jin’s profession is indeed integrated circuit testing technology, and integrated circuit design are two completely different fields.

But Chen Jin, in the face of various questions, flatly asserted that this is a smear on their own, but also to find the anonymous posting of the user.

But this incident aroused the interest of Fang Zhouzi, who had a passion for “counterfeiting” at that time.

Fang Zhouzi, whose real name is Fang Yimin, is known as a fighter against counterfeiting.

After some investigation, he found an extremely black humor “ironclad” evidence.

Fang Zhouzi actually found out by magic, Chen Jin hired renovation company civilian workers to polish the secret of the imported chip original printing machine, and how did he find out about it? The reason is very simple.

Ark: “This company is called Shanghai Hanji Decoration Engineering Co. Their official website put this matter as a result in the introduction, wrote ‘once for Chen Jin’s chip and system research center did decoration’, and then by the way to find them also to the chip also decorated decoration. He wrote here himself – a great honor to undertake the second chip in the commercial use of the definition of goods and shape design. The logo was changed and called ‘styling design’.”

This decoration company may be ignorant, or very “business acumen”, actually moved the matter to the most prominent place on the company’s official website, claiming to have done “styling design” for Chen Jin’s chip?

The chip research and development needs a decoration company to do styling? You put aside here beauty salon it?

When really is human confusion behavior.

The London School of Economics Martin. Professor Yak, once said this: “We must understand that our history relative to China are young people, China is now the oldest country, his history is too long perhaps you are shocked at the achievements of China now, this is actually our usual perception in the work, we should be shocked not what happened after 1978, but It’s not what happened after 1978, but what happened from the beginning of the 19th century to 1949.

Because for the vast majority of the millennium beyond that, China has been one of the most advanced countries in the world, or none of them, and that’s irrefutable, so you could say that it’s just China going back to its position, and the Chinese themselves think “we’re just reviving, not rising”.

Today we still have gaps in many aspects compared to the West, but we have never given up the goal of trying to surpass it, so we put it into practice and try to catch up, decades have passed quickly, and today there are still countless hurdles to overcome.

Tirelessly, every generation of young people are working hard for it, but facing backwardness, we have to move forward one step at a time, rather than rushing to give people with ulterior motives the opportunity to profit.

As long as we can make real progress, even if a little slower, it does not matter.
