Palestinian pilgrims clashed with Israeli police at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem on the night of May 7.
A Palestinian emergency service said a total of 53 Palestinians were injured in the clashes at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and elsewhere, including 23 who were taken to hospital. Most were wounded in the face and eyes by rubber bullets and shrapnel from hand grenades. The Israeli side said six policemen were wounded.
Earlier in the day, Israeli forces shot and killed two Palestinians and wounded one. The men had previously opened fire on Israeli border police in the occupied West Bank. The U.S. called on both sides of the conflict, to exercise restraint and ease tensions.
