The first day after the “May Day” public holiday, a number of defense lawyers of the Hebei Dawu Group case have received notice from the Gaobeidian City People’s Court: Hebei Dawu Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Group Co. The case of illegal occupation of agricultural land, illegal absorption of public deposits, fraud, has been prosecuted by the Hebei Gaobeidian City People’s Procuratorate to the court.
It is reported that the case involves 21 defendants or defendant units charged with 9 crimes, as many as 348 volumes of files and identification materials, in a short period of 10 days of review and prosecution, almost none of the defenders can complete the basic defense work such as reading the files, meeting with the parties, and submitting legal opinions, and some of the defenders are even too late to submit the commission procedures to the procuratorate. The legal team believes that the number of people involved in the case file materials so much, the review and prosecution time is so short, can be described as a historical precedent. The Dawu case is currently only 10 days from April 26, when the public security organs were transferred to the Gaobeidian City People’s Procuratorate for review and prosecution, and the time spans the May Day holiday.
The report said that the Gaobeidian City People’s Court has been through the Judicial Bureau, law firms and other channels, urged, requested the defense to the court before the close of business on Friday at the latest, to submit the commission procedures, and directly sent staff to some of the defense law firm to serve the indictment, file CDs, etc.. The internal staff revealed that the case has a strong prosecution and trial lineup, with the Procurator General of Gaobeidian People’s Procuratorate and the President of Gaobeidian People’s Court both personally participating in the trial as prosecutors or presiding officers.
The rights network pointed out that all the signs show that the case at least in Hebei Province launched a 24-hour contingency plan, external gagging, internal scrambling to advance the case processing process, the purpose is to compress all the defense time, as soon as possible to close the case.
