The Breitbart News reported May 5 that Joe Biden joined Democrats Wednesday to defend Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-Texas) retention of the Republican conference chairmanship.
While picking up takeout, Biden was asked by a reporter, “Do you have any comment on the fact that Cheney is facing ouster from his House Republican leadership position?” Biden replied, “I don’t understand Republicans.”
Biden’s comments came after several Democrats, expressed support for Cheney as the current Republican Conference chairman. The comments came after House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said on Tuesday that Cheney’s family-style big government politics were incompatible with a policy of “executive messaging.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Tuesday praised Cheney’s “courage” and “patriotism,” though she misspoke about Cheney’s name. Rep. Ted Lieu, a Democrat, also tweeted sympathy for Cheney, saying, “Rep. Liz Cheney doesn’t want to lie {about the election}.”
The Democratic National Committee War Room (the DNC War Room) Twitter account tweeted, “It’s clear that House Minority Leader McCarthy has lost control of his caucus ……”
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki didn’t stay out of it Tuesday either, saying, “Republicans seem to be spending a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to make their case and advocate, but that’s their prerogative. “
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) is rumored to be taking over for Cheney after Mr. Trump made a statement in her favor. The anti-Trump Lincoln Project also issued a video smearing Stefanik on the same day.
The Breitbart News reported Wednesday that “Stefanik has good connections in the Republican Party, which upset many Democrats nationwide in the 2020 election cycle, picking up 14 blue seats during which she raised $11 million. “
However, Cheney, who served as conference chairman, was the top fundraiser of all Republicans through political action committees, second only to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) overall. Breitbart News believes that the Republican Party must consider the financial implications of Cheney’s ouster.
