Twitter says it continues to block Trump accounts indefinitely

Twitter will continue to block Trump’s personal account, according to a Twitter executive.

Before the Facebook oversight board announced that it would continue to suspend Trump’s account, Twitter’s treasurer Ned Segal told Yahoo on Tuesday (May 4) that the company’s policy on “permanently suspending” Trump’s account “has not changed “. Twitter has suspended the former president’s account since days after the break-in at the Capitol.

When you step back and think about our policies, we want to try to be consistent, to be transparent, to let people know exactly what our expectations are,” Siegel said. We don’t have an oversight committee like (Facebook) does. Our team is accountable for the decisions we make. Nothing that we’ve talked about in the past has changed.”

The Facebook oversight board said Wednesday (May 5) that it decided to continue to suspend Trump’s account privileges because several of his comments after Jan. 6 “violated Facebook’s ban on praising or supporting people who engage in violence,” while also accusing Facebook of failing to conduct proper enforcement procedures.

The commission found that Facebook improperly referred to the suspension as an “indefinite” measure on Jan. 7, adding that Facebook did not follow clear, published procedures for permanently suspending Trump’s account.

The Commission noted that “by imposing a vague, standardless penalty (meaning an indefinite suspension) and then referring the case to the Commission for resolution, Facebook is attempting to evade its responsibilities. The Commission denied Facebook’s request and insisted that Facebook apply a clear penalty and justify it.”

Trump is understood to have called on his supporters to “go home peacefully” and called some “very special” in the post, prompting his accusations of approval of the congressional intruders.

Since his account was suspended, Trump has been speaking out through email statements, press releases and media interviews.

Trump launched a platform similar to a social media site on Tuesday evening. Trump’s spokesman Jason Miller said the site “is not a new social media platform. We will provide more information on that shortly.”
