The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare announced on April 30 that nine more men and women in their 40s to 101 years of age have died after receiving the new coronavirus vaccine, bringing the current number of deaths in Japan after receiving the new coronavirus vaccine to 19. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare held a seminar of knowledgeable people and said that it was impossible to evaluate whether the 19 deaths were causally related to the vaccination and that the current vaccination with the new coronavirus vaccine did not pose a significant risk.
Of the nine people mentioned in the new post-vaccination death report as of the 27th, a 46-year-old man who had no persistent disease died of acute aortic dissection the day after vaccination. A 90-year-old woman died 2 days later of pulmonary thromboembolism after a suspected acute allergic reaction to the vaccination, according to medical authorities.
The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare also reported on April 30 that among the nine deaths from April 19 to 23, eight elderly people aged 77 to 101 years old had brain hemorrhage and pulmonary thromboembolism five days after receiving the new coronavirus vaccine.
Acute allergic reactions were diagnosed in 94 cases out of 2,510,445 vaccinations (including 51,479 for the general elderly) with the U.S.-based Pfizer vaccine as of April 22 across Japan, with a frequency of 3-7 cases out of 100,000. Whether the case of the 90-year-old woman who died meets the international benchmark for the frequency of acute allergic reactions at the time of vaccination is subject to future investigation.
Currently, as of April 28, 3,348,013 vaccinations have been administered to medical workers in Japan, and 141,706 vaccinations have been administered to senior citizens as of April 29.
In order to complete the vaccination of all elderly people with the new crown vaccine within July, the Japanese government notified each prefecture on April 30 of the amount of distribution to each city, town and village from late May to the last week of June, and will distribute the portion of the vaccination that will be used up by the end of June for all elderly people.
Only the Pfizer vaccine has been approved for use in Japan, while the New Crown vaccine developed by the U.S. pharmaceutical company Modena has begun shipping to Japan, with the first plane carrying the vaccine arriving at Kansai Airport on the morning of April 30, Japan time. The new crown vaccine developed by Modena is still in the approval stage. The Japanese government plans to use it in large vaccination sites in Tokyo and Osaka, etc., after the approval process is completed, and coordination is currently underway.
