The U.S. House of Representatives and Senate of the Florida Legislature passed a bill on Thursday (April 29) to restrict social media access to block politicians’ accounts, limited to a 14-day freeze and a daily fine of up to $250,000 (about HK$1.95 million) for violators, which was officially implemented after Republican Governor DeSantis signed it. Outsiders questioned the bill for the former President Trump and set.
Although the bill has been successfully passed in both houses, but do not rule out the social media companies to challenge whether it is against the constitutional basis. After the Capitol Hill incident on January 6 this year, the then president Trump was accused of inciting his supporters and was subsequently blocked from using his account by major social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. It is worth mentioning that Trump settled in Florida after leaving office and made friends with Republicans like DeSantis, and the bill was said to be tailor-made for him.
