CNN reported that Vedori received scholarships from Harvard, Yale, MIT, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, Duke, Princeton, Brown, and the University of Virginia, as well as the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia in Canada.

It was unbelievable, Vedori said, applying to so many schools because she didn’t think any of them would accept her. The selection process for all of these schools is very rigorous and they only accept the top of the top, so as you can imagine, I have to remind myself every day that I got into these schools because it’s so unreal”, Vedori said.

Last year, Vitori took nine language and academic ability tests administered by Cambridge and the American Association of Colleges and Universities, and not only did she get all A’s, she also ranked in the top 1% of all candidates.

Vitori said she hopes to move forward in the field of computational biology in the future, and is still comparing the differences between schools, with a possible list including Stanford, Harvard, MIT, Duke and Johns Hopkins.

Vitori’s parents are both Nigerian, with her mother Chika (Chika Yinka-Banjo) working as a senior lecturer at the University of Lagos in the capital and her father Adeyinka Banjo working as a procurement and supply chain executive for a private company. Chika said her daughter’s story will inspire many young Algerians.
