Why nearly 20% of California electric car owners want to return to gasoline vehicles

Based on the promotion of green living and high gas prices, international major mainstream car manufacturers have aimed to develop electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles. Pictured is Nissan’s fully rechargeable Leaf sedan.

A new study shows that 18 percent of electric car owners want to return to using gasoline-powered vehicles themselves.

According to the Electrek report, researchers at the University of California Davis (University of California Davis) say more than 4,000 households in California that own or previously owned electric vehicles have gone back to using gasoline and diesel vehicles, according to The Hill in Washington.

Owners were 20 percent more likely to switch back to gasoline-powered vehicles if they owned a hybrid.

Co-authors Scott Hardman and Gil Tal detail in Nature Energy why electric car owners are switching back to gasoline vehicles.

“Here, based on a five-question survey, we found that 20 percent of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle owners and 18 percent of battery electric vehicle owners in California are switching back to gasoline. vehicle) owners, switched back to gasoline powered vehicles.”

“Our study shows that the reasons they want to give up their electric vehicles are related to the following factors: dissatisfaction with ease of charging, less efficient use of other vehicles in the home, lack of Level 2 (240-volt) charging in the home, fewer vehicles in the home, and not being male.”

As the researchers point out, charging remains the biggest hurdle for EV users and, of course, the best perk of EVs.

In fact, at home, electric cars can “fill up” in less than two hours. The root of this problem is that most homes in California are not optimized for car charging. Another problem is the lack of parking spaces, or the lack of parking spaces that can be charged for. For those who live in apartments, parking an electric car can be a challenge.

However, this issue of whether to return to gasoline-powered cars also depends on the brand of electric car that owners want to give up. Owners of Tesla electric cars are the least likely to switch their electric cars back to gasoline. Buyers of the Fiat 500e (Fiat500e), on the other hand, are more likely to switch back to a gasoline car.
