The dispute between China and Japan over the Diaoyu Islands is heating up. On April 26, the Chinese Ministry of Natural Resources released the “Geomorphological Survey Report on the Diaoyu Islands and its Subsidiary Islands” after Chinese and Japanese officials exchanged words. The issue of the Diaoyu Islands has attracted attention again, including the history of selling out the Diaoyu Islands, which the Chinese Communist Party does not dare to mention.

On April 26, the Chinese Ministry of Natural Resources released the report on the geomorphological survey of the Diaoyu Islands, by mapping the topography of the main island, the northern island, the southern island and other islands. In the three maps attached to the report, one can see the topographic maps with contours of the main island, the northern island, and the southern island, as well as a description of the topographic trends.

The report claims that the survey report is based on the “historical survey results” and thematic survey research, using the latest high-resolution satellite telemetry and other survey methods, using the latest topographic data of the Diaoyu Islands and its affiliated islands and the shallow area of 30 meters to compile the latest large-scale topographic and geomorphological thematic maps of the islands, further improving the The topographic and geomorphological map was compiled by using the latest topographic data of the islands and the shallow area of 30 meters.

The topographic and geomorphological map is extensively marked with the names of local peaks, reefs, bays and other landmarks by the Chinese side after the sovereignty dispute over the Diaoyu Islands in 2012. For example, the highest peak on the main island of the Diaoyu Islands, 362 meters above sea level, is labeled as “Gaohuafeng”.

On the 26th, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs protested the above survey report through diplomatic channels.

The day before (April 26), the WeChat public number “China Marine Police” said that a fleet of 2301 ships of the Chinese Communist Party’s Marine Police was cruising “within the territorial waters of the Diaoyu Islands”.

Prior to that, on April 16, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and U.S. President Joe Biden held a U.S.-Japan summit. In a joint statement, the two sides reaffirmed the U.S.-Japan security treaty and the application of U.S.-Japan security to the Senkaku Islands (also known as the Diaoyu Islands), and opposed unilateral actions that would undermine Japan’s administration of the Senkaku Islands. Subsequently, Chinese and Japanese officials sparred with each other over the Diaoyu Islands.

Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi mentioned in a speech at a meeting of Liberal Democratic Party lawmakers on April 22 that the increasingly frequent activities of Chinese Communist Party maritime police vessels on the Diaoyu Islands “have caused a total change in the status quo, and (Japan) cannot accept such a situation.”

Chinese Communist Party Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian responded to this on the 23rd, saying, “Such remarks are completely credible, extremely irresponsible and misleading public opinion.”

However, it was not until 1971 that the Chinese Communist Party first claimed that the Senkaku Islands (Diaoyu Islands) belonged to China, after the official Chinese Communist Party mouthpiece People’s Daily had publicly claimed that the Diaoyu Islands belonged to Japan.

Hu Ping, a well-known current affairs commentator, has also said: “People’s Daily” once admitted that the Diaoyu Islands were Japan’s, and then the Chinese Communist Party then backtracked and had no power. Of course it does not mention these things the common people simply do not know that it gives up some territory. It does not dare to negotiate seriously with Japan on this issue, how about settling the attribution issue. At present, the Diaoyu Islands are actually occupied and controlled by Japan.

In 2012, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs took a screenshot of an article in the People’s Daily, a Chinese Communist Party official website, with the comment “It is clear that China (the Chinese Communist Party) once considered (the Senkaku Islands) as part of Okinawa”, saying that it was officially recognized by the Chinese Communist Party.

The article in the People’s Daily was published on January 8, 1953, and was titled “The struggle of the people of the Ryukyu Islands against the American occupation”. According to the article, the Ryukyu Islands are scattered in the sea between the northeast of Taiwan and the southwest of Japan’s Kyushu Island, and include seven groups of islands, including the Senkaku Islands, the Senshima Islands, the Okinawa Islands, and the Oshima Islands.

In addition, on March 26, 1958, the People’s Daily also published an editorial titled “Shameless Fabrication”, which quoted the Chinese Communist Party’s diplomatic spokesman at the time as saying that the so-called “China will never give up its sovereignty over the Ryukyu Islands” was a rumor fabricated by the Americans. The editorial also said that Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai had stated in his “Statement on the U.S.-British Draft Peace Treaty with Japan and the San Francisco Conference” on August 15, 1951, that “these islands, including the Ryukyu and Ogasawara Islands, have not been stipulated in any international agreement in the past to be The islands have never been separated from Japan in any international agreement.

The friction between China and Japan over the sovereignty dispute over the Diaoyu Islands. Overseas pro-democracy activist Wang Juntao has said that the game behind the Diaoyu Islands is the heart of defending the country for many young people, especially overseas Chinese, but in fact the Chinese Communist government is very weak-minded because it has sold out a lot of territory in exchange for their political stability. So the Chinese Communist Party is just playing there, and not really against anything Japanese.
