Japan’s Foreign Ministry protested through diplomatic channels in Tokyo and Beijing on the same day against the release of topographic maps and survey reports of the Senkaku Islands (known as Diaoyu Islands in China) by the Chinese government, dissatisfied with China’s claim of sovereignty over the islands in question as a premise, sources cited by Kyodo News on Monday disclosed.
It is reported that China’s Ministry of Natural Resources released on its official website on the same day the “Topographic and Geomorphological Survey Report on the Diaoyu Islands and their Affiliated Islands” prepared by its organization, which covers two parts of the topographic and geomorphological features of the islands in dispute over the above sovereignty, as well as the topographic and geomorphological features of the shallow sea.
The official CNN report said that the report, by systematically sorting out historical long-term survey data and combining the latest high-resolution satellite remote sensing survey results, continuously tracked the Diaoyu Islands and its affiliated islands undersea topography and geomorphology, and further supplemented and improved the basic geographic data system, which has an important supporting role for the management of the Diaoyu Islands’ resources and ecological environmental protection.
