Four Chinese maritime police vessels sail again into Japanese territorial waters near disputed islands and reefs

According to a news release from the Coast Guard Headquarters cited by Kyodo News, four Chinese Coast Guard Bureau vessels sailed into Japanese territorial waters near the Senkaku Islands (known as the Diaoyu Islands in China) at around 10:15 a.m. on Sunday and entered the contiguous zone off the territorial waters between 11:45 a.m. and noon.

The Japan Coast Guard headquarters said four Chinese vessels sailed into the territorial waters west-southwest of the Diaoyu Islands that day, and one of them was carrying a device similar to a machine gun. This is also the 15th day since April 13, Chinese official ships sailed into the territorial waters near the Senkaku. And including the contiguous zone, Chinese official vessels have been spotted in the waters around the Senkaku for 72 consecutive days.

It is reported that China’s Ministry of Natural Resources released the “Topographic and Geomorphological Survey Report on the Diaoyu Islands and its Affiliated Islands” this Monday, triggering protests from Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
