Queen Elizabeth II, 95, is the longest reigning monarch of the United Kingdom. After the recent death of her husband Prince Philip, the issue of succession to the British throne has once again come to the fore. In this regard, the royal writer Katie Nicholl revealed that Prince William began to meet with his grandmother alone every Sunday at the age of 13. The Queen is not only concerned about her grandson’s schoolwork and life, but also wants to prepare for William’s “future”.
According to the media, in 1995, the then 13-year-old William was a boarding student at Eton College, a prestigious aristocratic school, and had a few hours every Sunday to visit his grandmother at nearby Windsor Castle (Windsor). When asked where he was going, William would say, “I’m going to the bathroom,” not wanting his classmates to notice that he was the “future king.
The weekly visits allowed the Queen and William to build a close relationship, especially after the death of Princess Diana in 1997, the Queen paid special attention to William and Harry, Nicoll said, “The Queen decided to stay in Scotland with her grandson instead of immediately delivering a mourning speech to the nation, which caused a great deal of national discontent and was one of the few times when the Queen put her family before her responsibilities. It was one of the few moments when the Queen put her family before her responsibilities. William recalled that “his grandmother was there to protect her grandchildren and her son (Crown Prince Charles)”.
The Queen was so concerned about Prince William’s confusion as a teenager about his succession that she and Prince Philip invited him to lunch or tea every Sunday. Nicoll said, “William will talk to the Queen alone about his ideas, and the Queen will personally teach and answer him, just as her grandfather, King George V, used to do”.
