The Chinese Communist Party’s military aircraft have been disturbing Taiwan for a long time.

Jiang Qichen, chairman of the KMT, the largest opposition party in Taiwan, said that there has been a long-term trend of communist aircraft disturbing Taiwan and that the ROC government should play a proactive role in the Taiwan Strait and promote cross-strait dialogue. However, Wang Dingyu, a member of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party, believes that avoiding war depends on the ability to deter, while not giving the other side an excuse to send troops.

During a questioning session at the Legislative Yuan on Monday (April 26), lawmaker Jiang Qichen, chairman of Taiwan’s largest opposition party, the Kuomintang, said the NSA report points to a long-term trend in the U.S.-China standoff, a strategic pattern that he believes will also make communist aircraft disturb Taiwan in the long term.

He said, “Now where in the world is there such a dense concentration of warplanes rising and confronting each other on a daily basis as in the Taiwan Strait, not just those flying in the sky and going by sea.”

Jiang Qichen also said that in the face of such a situation, the government should take some actions to play a proactive role in the Taiwan Strait, who said that Taiwan must be a bargaining chip between the U.S. and China rather than a bridge? Taiwan can promote dialogue between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.

On Monday, the Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee of the Legislative Yuan of Taiwan invited relevant officials to give a special report on “Recent Developments in East Asia and Implications for Taiwan” and to be questioned.

Taiwan’s national security director Chen Ming-tong pointed out in his reply that although the number of communist planes circling Taiwan is increasing, the issue of the Taiwan Strait cannot only be seen in the context of Taiwan and the mainland, but must be seen in the context of the regional structure of East Asia, where the Chinese Communist Party continues to expand its force and other countries will hesitate to invest.

Ming-Tung Chen also talked about the benefits Taiwan should bring to its allies, the best example being Taiwan’s possession of an advanced semiconductor industry, while at the same time Beijing should change its thinking that if it abandons force against Taiwan, there will be peace across the Taiwan Strait.

The report of Taiwan’s National Security Bureau also pointed out that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has already launched activities to commemorate the centennial of its founding. In view of the internal propaganda and the external demonstration of national self-confidence, the CCP may become more assertive in its attitude concerning sovereignty, human rights issues and external conflicts, and increase the pressure on Taiwan and neighboring countries to deal with them.

The ruling Democratic Progressive Party legislator Wang Dingyu said during questioning that Taiwan is a peace-loving country and certainly cannot seek war, but as for avoiding war, it is not by surrendering or bending to the will of the enemy.

He said, “Avoiding war depends on our scare resistance, avoiding war is also a very important thing is, not to provide the other side available excuses, this part, our government in the past few years to do is the international praise,”

Commissioner Wang Dingyu also pointed out that Taiwan cannot be turned into a battlefield, in fact, the only country in the world that wants to turn the Taiwan Strait into a battlefield is the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), if it does not dare to criticize the CCP for this militaristic approach and only asks the threatened to improve, then this is surrenderism.

According to a report by Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense, the Chinese Communist Party uses anti-submarine aircraft, early warning aircraft, fighter jets and electric warplanes to routinely invade Taiwan’s southwestern airspace and enter Taiwan’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ), continuing to increase military pressure on Taiwan.

Taiwan’s Academia Sinica Europe and America researcher Lin Zheng said at a symposium recently that, starting in June 2020, communist aircraft frequently enter and exit the southwest corner of Taiwan’s air defense identification zone, the Taiwan Air Force in 2020 may have deployed more than 4,000 warplanes to respond to this war of attrition.

Lin Zheng pointed out that the reason for the communist aircraft to disturb Taiwan is multiple, Beijing is happy to see the outside world to find various reasons to play its threat of psychological warfare, the Republic of China military in the air force interception, broadcast repulsion, warships and air defense forces, with frequent war time unexpected situation disposal provisions to defend the airspace over the Taiwan Strait, should be the world’s very few tasks of the busiest naval and air forces.

Mr. Lin reminded that whether China’s measures to disturb and deplete Taiwan are “controllable” politically, but “uncontrollable” military accidents occur, is a political risk that both sides of the Taiwan Strait need to face.
