Scaring the U.S. Military? Iran releases aerial photos of U.S. aircraft carriers

The United States and Iran are engaged in nuclear negotiations. Recently, Iran made a big show of its combat prowess by releasing a video of a U.S. aircraft carrier taken by a drone in the Persian Gulf.

According to Indian media EurasianTimes 24, Iran’s Tasnim news agency and Iran’s state-run news TV station Press TV released the video in what is believed to be an attempt to intimidate U.S. forces. The video, allegedly shot through the on-board camera of an armed drone during a flight test, shows a U.S. aircraft carrier passing through the Persian Gulf.

Meanwhile, Press TV also released a video demonstrating the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) new suicide drone test flights and strikes against various targets.

This is not the first time Iran’s IRGC has tested U.S. military capabilities in the region. Last September, Iran released images of a U.S. carrier strike group deployed near the Strait of Hormuz.

And in 2019, in the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. Navy successfully shot down an Iranian drone, and a second one may have been shot down as well, except that the second drone was not observed crashing into the water.

This time Iran is again showing off its drone technology in a high-profile manner, largely related to the ongoing Iranian nuclear talks. Senior U.S. diplomats said Wednesday that while negotiations have progressed, Washington and Tehran remain divided, even very much so, on how to return to compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and the outcome remains uncertain.
