Oklahoma Passes Law: Drivers Who Accidentally Kill or Injure Rioters Will Be Protected

Oklahoma passed legislation this week that would not hold drivers liable for injuring or killing someone while fleeing the scene of a riot if they feel it is necessary to protect themselves from serious injury or death, according to an April 23 report in the Breitbart News. And, blocking a public street during a demonstration carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $5,000 fine.

The bill, 1674, which passed the Oklahoma House and was signed into law Wednesday by Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt, has been turned into law.

Several people were injured in the crash last summer when a pickup truck drove through a crowd protesting Floyd’s death on the Tulsa interstate.

On Wednesday, the day the bills were signed into law, more than two dozen Black Lives Matter protesters descended on the Oklahoma House chamber, chanting slogans in an attempt to stop debate on several bills, but the issue was quickly resolved without violence, according to the Breitbart News.
