Hangzhou has a rare Taiwan film festival

A film festival in Hangzhou, China, on the theme of “Masters of Taiwanese Cinema” was stopped shortly after it opened. Chinese netizens have speculated that it was related to comments made by some of the directors insulting China; others have suggested that it was due to a lack of official approval, for various reasons.

The 57th Golden Horse Awards ended last night, and many Chinese netizens watched the event, with several film KOLs (opinion leaders) posting comments on Weibo. The Hangzhou Taiwan Film Festival has been abruptly terminated, according to a report by the Central News Agency today, for a variety of reasons.

According to the report, according to Hong Kong 01, a screening of “Across the Ocean,” a Taiwanese film festival in Hangzhou, was originally scheduled to show “Ne Zha the Teenager” on the afternoon of 21 March, but was halted 20 minutes after it began. All subsequent screenings have been cancelled. According to the official announcement, the festival will show more than 10 films directed by Ang Lee, Hou Hsiao-hsien, Yang Dechang, Cai Ming-liang and Wang Tong, including “The Wedding Banquet”, “The Dust of Love”, “The Terrorist”, “The Terrorist”, and “The Terrorist”. “The film festival has been cancelled for the past three years.

According to the newspaper, the news of the film festival’s termination was first revealed by a few KOLs on Weibo, which led to a discussion among Chinese netizens, many of whom felt it was a pity that they had lost a chance to see classic works, while others thought that the festival had violated regulations and was terminated just in time. Opinions on why the film festival was canceled are divided. On Weibo, some Chinese netizens pointed the finger at Cai Mingliang, saying that he had made “insulting remarks about China” during a media interview.

In addition, some netizens believe that the news of the entire film festival is low-key and opaque, and it is not even announced where it will be held.

According to the Central News Agency, according to the official announcement, the event was positioned as an academic exchange, and all the films were officially authorized. However, each film will be shown in a different location, and participants will be notified via a message 48 hours prior to the screening, and participating citizens are prohibited from posting signs on social networking sites. So far, however, the organizer of the festival, Sparrow Screening, has not stated the reason for the termination of the festival, nor how it will be handled. Many of the KOLs who were the first to expose the event have also removed the postings, and only screenshots of the postings are currently circulating online.
