Medical examiner: police officer killed in storming Congress died of a stroke

Brian Sicknick, a Capitol Police officer, suffered two strokes and died of natural causes after a push and shove with a group of former President Trump supporters, the chief medical examiner in Washington, D.C., has ruled.

A report from the medical examiner’s office Monday (April 19) said the 42-year-old police officer died of natural causes after suffering strokes. He died the day after the violent incident on Jan. 6.

The conclusion means that federal prosecutors will have a hard time charging people with homicide in connection with Hickok’s death.

Two men – George Pierre Tanios and Julian Elie Khater – face charges of assaulting three police officers, including Hickernik. They are accused of spraying a chemical irritant at police officers on Jan. 6.

The Washington Post first reported this ruling by the medical examiner.
