After a child was killed and nearly 40 people were injured, U.S. consumer safety officials today warned consumers with children and pets to stop using the Palladium Tread+ treadmill immediately. But Palladium later issued a press release saying the warning was incorrect and misleading.
The Associated Press reported that the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said it had received reports of children and pets getting caught in the rear wheels of Peloton’s Tread+ treadmill, resulting in broken bones, bruises and the death of one child.

New York-based Palladium Health Technologies issued a news release stating that the warning was “incorrect and misleading”. Palladium said there is no reason to stop using the treadmill as long as children and pets are kept away from the treadmill at all times and the power is turned off when not in use.
But the Consumer Safety Commission said they have received at least one case where a child was pulled under the machine when the parents were using the treadmill, indicating that even if the parents were present, the machine could still pose a threat to the child.
The Consumer Safety Commission said that if adults want to continue to use the treadmill, should only be used in a locked room, so that children and pets will not be close. When not in use, the treadmill power should be unplugged.
The Consumer Safety Commission said that in view of the fitness ball and other items have also been involved in the treadmill, it is recommended to put these items far away.
