China and South Korea have been in constant controversy recently, following the “Hanbok” and “kimchi” origins of each other’s shelling, South Korea recently nearly 600,000 people, signed a joint request to the authorities to withdraw the construction of China Town in the tourist resort of Gangwon Province.
The sponsor of the petition said he does not understand why Chinese culture is being promoted in South Korea and criticized China for destroying Korean culture, including kimchi and Korean costumes, and that it is time to face China as its northeastern projects continue to make inroads.
The promoters pointed out that the site of China Town is the world’s largest historical site, has excavated a large number of cultural relics, worried that the construction will make the history is buried.
The Gangwon Provincial Government said that the 1.2 million square meter project is wholly owned by a private company and has different tourist facilities, including a K-pop museum, and is not a Chinese settlement area, nor is it a so-called China Town, and is still in the basic planning stage. There will be no impact on the heritage in the ground.
On the 29th of last month, a petition was launched on the website of the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae to cancel the proposed China Culture City, and nearly 600,000 people had signed it by Sunday afternoon (18th).
