600,000 Koreans oppose the construction of a Chinatown in Gangwon Province.
The Chinese and South Korean people have been in constant controversy recently, following the mutual bombardment of the origins of “Hanbok” and “kimchi”, nearly 600,000 people in South Korea recently signed a petition asking the authorities to withdraw the construction of a China town in the tourist resort of Gangwon Province.
The sponsors of the petition say they do not understand why Chinese culture is being promoted in South Korea and criticize the Chinese Communist Party for destroying Korean culture, including kimchi and Korean costumes, and that it is time to confront the Chinese Communist Party for the continued aggression of China’s northeastern projects.
The promoters pointed out that the site of China Town is the world’s largest historical site, which has excavated a large number of cultural relics, and fear that the construction will cause the history to be buried.
The Gangwon-do government said the 1.2 million square meter project is wholly owned by a private company and has different tourist facilities, including a K-pop museum, and is not a Chinese settlement area, nor is it a so-called China Town, and is still in the basic planning stage. There is no impact on the underground heritage.
On the 29th of last month, a petition was launched on the website of the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae, asking for the cancellation of the proposed China Culture City, and nearly 600,000 people had signed it by Sunday afternoon (18th).
