Lin Huiyin and Liang Sicheng’s love makes us envious. After their marriage, the two of them often went to the wilderness of faraway mountains together for the sake of preserving ancient buildings, walking together through 15 provinces, 190 counties, and mapping 2738 ancient buildings.
On his wedding night, Liang Sicheng asked Lin Huiyin “why did you choose me”, and Lin Huiyin said she had to spend her life to answer. Lin Huiyin was able to stay with her husband through thick and thin, but that doesn’t mean her daughter-in-law Zhou Rumei was able to do the same. Zhou Rumei not only left Liang Sicheng during the most difficult time of the family, but also changed her son’s surname to Zhou.
Zhou Rumei was an early English translator in China, who translated for state leaders on many important occasions. She was born in a family no less famous than Liang’s from the commandments, and her father, Zhou Peiyuan, was the founder of modern Chinese mechanics and a famous fluid mechanic, who returned from studying in the United States in 1929 to serve as president of Peking University. Zhou Peiyuan and Liang Sicheng were classmates at Tsinghua University, and Zhou Rumei grew up with Liang Conjian, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Liang Lin, because of his father.
Zhou and Liang knew each other since they were young and grew up together. In 1954, Liang married Zhou as soon as he graduated from university and had a son, Liang Jian, a year after the marriage. Zhou Rumei and Liang Conjian spent 12 years together, and their relationship was always very good. In his later years, Liang Conjian recalled this relationship and said that it was the happiest time of his life, but in 1966, the couple’s relationship was affected by the current situation and broke up.
Zhou Rumei and Liang began to change their relationship with their two parents, Liang Sicheng and Zhou Peiyuan because of their different ideologies, and Zhou Peiyuan personally held a meeting to criticize Liang Sicheng. Liang was not a member of the Liang family but of the Zhou family.
In 1969, Liang was sent down to the farm, and the year before, Zhou Rumei married another person, Xie Rong, an anesthesiologist, and gave birth to Xie Rong’s daughter, Xie Lan, in the same year. Liang from the commandment after a long time also remarried, remarried to their own Yanjing affiliated high school lover Fang Jing, Fang Jing middle school halfway transfer school, and Liang from the commandment broke off contact, the two see each other again are already adults, in a party accidentally meet, in Liang from the commandment cousin set up again together.
He never used disposable goods, and kept things that others did not use in his office for his own use. He lived until his death on October 28, 2010, at the age of 78, using a bicycle every day.
His ex-wife, Zhou Rumei, died in 1980 at the age of 49, and her daughter Xie Lan was only 12 years old. Xie Lan went to the United States to study in 1990 and stayed there, where she started a family and became the first Chinese mayor of Montgomery.
This may be a person’s life, there is a gain and there is a loss. Zhou Rumei was not implicated because of Liang Congjing, but she did not live very long either. There is a Chinese saying: “A husband and wife are of one mind and their interests are broken”, as long as the heart is in one place what difficulties can be overcome, but few people really do, if you meet such a person must be cherished.
