Hong Kong epidemic rebound, today added 18 cases of 2019 coronavirus disease (Chinese communist virus, COVID-19) confirmed cases, including the first local cases with N501Y variant of the virus, and the source of infection of this patient is unknown.
China News Agency reported that the Center for Health Protection of the Hong Kong Department of Health informed that 18 cases were confirmed in Hong Kong today, of which 8 were local cases, and one of the 6 cases of unknown origin had the N501Y variant of the virus. This is the first time in Hong Kong that a variant of the virus has been found in the community.
The Department of Health Center for Health Protection Infectious Disease Division Director Zhang Zhujun pointed out that the local source of unknown cases with N501Y variant virus is a 29-year-old man, he is an engineer working in Dubai. March 19, after arriving in Hong Kong by plane, has been in quarantine at the Ramada Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, until April 8 to complete quarantine, during each test is negative.
The patient completed quarantine after living in Jordan Burjas Building in Kowloon, 9 to 16 days during the visit to the Yau Tsim Mong area restaurants, banks, as well as taking the ferry to the outlying islands of Cheung Chau. Until he decided to travel to Dubai on the 16th, after going to the community testing center for testing on the 15th, he was confirmed to be infected with the variant virus on the evening of the 16th, during which there had been no signs of illness.
Zhang Zhujun said, for the time being failed to determine the source of the variant virus in the community, there are currently three possibilities. First, the patient was infected in Dubai after Hong Kong, each test during the quarantine was negative; second, the patient arrived in Hong Kong may be in the airport to arrive at the hotel, or the hotel quarantine during the loophole and was infected; third, the patient was infected in the Burjas building or other locations in the community.
According to the official notification, the CHP last night has been arranged for mandatory quarantine of all floors of the units in the Burjas Building without signs of illness, in order to intercept the potential risk of the spread of the variant strain of the virus.
Dr. Lam Man Kin, director of the Centre for Health Protection, said that the epidemic is rebounding and the Centre will be on standby to suppress the rebound or rely on the joint efforts of all sectors of the community. The public is urged to keep a social distance and take precautionary measures, and most importantly, to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible to create a universal vaccine immunization barrier.
