U.S. to take another shot at TikTok and restrict exports of chip production tools…

Reports indicate that U.S. Republican lawmakers are pushing for congressional legislation that would ban U.S. government employees from using the social media app TikTok on state devices.

On Thursday (15) Republican Senators Josh Hawley and Marco Rubio, among others, introduced the No TikTok on Government Devices Act to the House and Senate. The bill would require the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (Office of Management and Budget) to set standards and guidelines for the implementation of government agencies, requiring the removal of TikTok within 60 days of the bill’s passage.

In addition, reports indicate that members of the U.S. Republican Party urged the U.S. Department of Commerce to more strictly restrict the export of chip production tools to China. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, and Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Arkansas, urged the Commerce Department to establish stricter requirements that all U.S. manufacturers of electronic design automation tools (which help design computer chips) must obtain a government license before exporting any of their products to China.
