On the afternoon of April 16, a 4.3 magnitude earthquake occurred in Luanzhou City, Hebei Province, with a depth of 9 km. Some residents’ roofs were shattered and walls cracked. Luanzhou City is a county-level city under the administration of Tangshan City, just 50 kilometers away.

According to official media reports, a 4.3 magnitude earthquake occurred at 16:06 on April 16 in Luanzhou City, Tangshan City, Hebei Province (39.75 degrees north latitude, 118.71 degrees east longitude), with a depth of 9 kilometers.

A video released by netizens shows a 4.3 magnitude earthquake in Luanzhou City, Hebei. The walls of some residents’ houses were cracked; the roofs of some houses were shattered.

It is reported that on July 28, 1976, two major earthquakes of magnitude 7 or more occurred within 16 hours in the Tangshan area of Hebei. At 3:42:53.8 a.m. that day, a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale occurred in the area of the Fengnan District of Tangshan City, and 23 seconds later, Tangshan was razed into ruins. Another large aftershock occurred 16 hours later, at 18:45 that day, another 7.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in Luanxian. The geographical location of Luanxian is now the city of Luanzhou.

At 10:22 on May 28, 2012, another 4.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Tangshan City area and at the border of Luanxian County.
