There were two bizarre freezing deaths in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where a 36-year-old man and an 80-year-old man were frozen to death in an average temperature of 10℃-13℃.
It is strange because the temperature at 10℃-13℃ is not low, and most people can resist that temperature, if so, why would two men be frozen to death in Thailand?
The process of freezing to death
In our impression, freezing to death usually happens in extremely cold places, for example: in the winter in the northeast, some people are accidentally frozen to death because they fall down to sleep on the roadside for various reasons.
In fact, freezing to death does not necessarily have to be extreme cold weather, as long as the temperature is below 21℃, people can be frozen to death.
We know that humans are constant temperature creatures and we consume our own energy to maintain our body temperature at about 36.5 degrees Celsius. When the outside temperature is lower than the body temperature, then we will consume more energy to maintain the body temperature. However, the body needs to replenish food in time when consuming energy, otherwise it will not be able to produce enough heat, so that the body temperature will gradually lose.
Some people may say that as long as there are sufficient clothes, you can avoid the cold. But in fact, clothes can not generate heat, clothes can only slow down the rate of body temperature loss, can not stop the loss of body temperature.
When the body’s core body temperature drops to 35 degrees Celsius, hypothermia occurs at that point. If the hypothermia is only mild, we will feel shaky, our hands will be numb, we will not be able to complete complex movements, goose bumps will appear on our skin, and some people may even feel tightness in their scalp. If we do not keep warm or eat at this time, we will lose further body temperature.
When the body temperature drops to 34 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius, the body’s muscles will tremble more violently and the limbs will become more difficult to move, and memory loss may occur.
When the body temperature is lower than normal for a long time, the body will “abandon the car to protect the marshal”, that is, the skin and limb end of the blood will flow to the core of the body to ensure that the body organs and brain temperature to maintain normal operation, which is why in life will rarely occur frostbite phenomenon, but often occur frostbite phenomenon.
The most common frostbite is frostbite on the fingers and toes, and in the past, children in rural areas often saw frostbite on their hands when they went to school, because the blood vessels at the ends of the limbs are thinner and fewer, and the hands and feet are often exposed to the cold, but this frostbite can recover after conditioning.
In fact, most hypothermia can be recovered without sending to hospital for treatment after certain measures to keep warm and repel cold. However, if you stay in a cold environment for too long and do not do a good job of keeping warm, the body may suffer more serious frostbite at this time. For example, if it is muscle frostbite or even necrosis, will probably face the risk of amputation.
Drunk people are most likely to have frostbite accidents, because the ethanol in the body of drunk people can accelerate blood circulation, making the body lose heat faster. At the same time, intoxicated people are less able to take care of themselves and have difficulty taking adequate measures to keep warm and out of the cold.
If the body temperature is further lost and drops to 30 degrees Celsius, the patient may experience the phenomenon of “bizarre undressing”. At this point, the body’s heartbeat will become slow, blood pressure will slowly drop, consciousness will be blurred, and the central system that regulates body temperature will be paralyzed, causing the blood that was going to the internal organs to flow back to the ends of the limbs, resulting in the illusion of heat, and the body may then take off its own clothes, which will lead to further loss of body temperature. It should be noted, however, that not all patients who freeze to death will experience the phenomenon of singular undressing.
When the human body temperature falls below 21 degrees Celsius, it is then that the most severe form of hypothermia is faced and the hypothermic person will fall into a coma or even die.
It is because when the human body temperature is lower than about 21 degrees Celsius, it may lead to death, so in the temperature of 10 ℃ -13 ℃, if you do not do a good job to keep warm, as well as the body does not have sufficient energy, it may lead to be frozen to death.
Why does freezing to death smile
Some people on the Internet say that people who freeze to death will die with a smile on their face and a happy death. But in fact, this statement is wrong, not all freezing to death will be with a smile on their faces, only very few will appear this phenomenon.
The appearance of a smile may be related to the appearance of hallucinations, when the loss of body temperature, the human body will be very fuzzy consciousness, the brain will become confused, so that a variety of hallucinations. The hallucinations may make the frostbite sufferer feel happy and smile. After that it will be because of the continuous loss of body temperature, the facial muscles become stiff, so much so that it will retain the smile expression until death comes.
