Indiana FedEx shooting, at least 8 dead, gunman killed himself

The shooting occurred at the FedEx Letter and Package Shipping Center in Indianapolis April 16, 2021

At least eight people are known to have died in a shooting at a FedEx FedEx facility in the central U.S. city of Indianapolis on the night of April 15, and a suspected gunman is believed to have committed suicide.

All of the victims were found at a FedEx FedEx mail package center near the city’s international airport, police spokeswoman Genae Cook told reporters.

Several others were taken to hospitals, she added, but she did not specify the number of people brought in. She said police believe the suspected shooter committed suicide, and authorities believe there is now no threat to public safety.

A man working at the scene told local television (WISH-TV) that he saw a person firing an automatic weapon and heard more than 10 gunshots.

The witness, Jeremiah Miller, said, “I saw a man with some kind of machine pistol, an automatic weapon, and he was firing into the air.” I immediately lowered myself. I was so scared.”

In a statement, FedEx confirmed the shooting at its facility and stressed that the group is cooperating with authorities. “We have learned of a tragic shooting at our ground facility near the Indianapolis airport,” the statement said. “Safety is our number one priority,” and our thoughts are with all those affected.” The facility employs more than 4,000 people, according to media reports.
