Number of Convicted Criminals Attempting to Cross Border Surges 380%, Border Services Finds

Data revealed by Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) reveals that one of the 20 border sectors is experiencing a nearly 400 percent increase in attempted border crossings, The National Pulse reported Wednesday.

This alarming number is buried in a recent Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) press release, “Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Border Patrol Apprehends a Convicted Murderer and an MS-13 Member.”

MS-13 is an international criminal gang that originated in the Pico-Union district of Los Angeles and has spread throughout North and Central America to date, with an estimated membership of more than 50,000 in the United States alone in 2005.

Customs and Border Patrol revealed that “the number of unaccompanied alien children, family units and single adults encountered by Border Patrol is on the rise; the number of criminal alien arrests is also increasing. The Valley Patrol has made 1,625 criminal alien arrests so far this fiscal year, compared to 338 such arrests this time last year and a 380 percent increase this year.”

The press release further explains, “These criminal aliens were convicted in the United States, not as illegal aliens but as criminals, for crimes including murder, sex crimes, assault, and narcotics trafficking.”
