The U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence released its Annual Threat Assessment 2021 on April 13, listing the Chinese Communist Party as the number one threat to U.S. national security. The report notes that the Chinese Communist Party is attempting to divide the United States from its partnerships with allies and continues to pressure Taiwan in an attempt to force its reunification.
This 2021 Annual Threat Assessment (2021 Annual Threat Assessment) sets out the U.S. intelligence community’s view of the major foreign policy issues facing President Biden in his first year in office.
The report notes that the Chinese Communist Party has emerged as the greatest threat to U.S. national security, and that Russia, Iran, and North Korea, among others, are among the countries testing U.S. national security.
The CCP seeks to increase its global influence in order to weaken U.S. influence, divorce U.S. partnerships with allies, and get the international community to accept its authoritarian regime.
Intelligence agencies have assessed that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) could cause localized, temporary damage to critical infrastructure in the United States through cyberattacks, thus ranking the CCP as the number one threat to U.S. national security.
The report also mentions that the Chinese Communist Party continues to isolate Taiwan internationally and intensify its military activities around Taiwan in an attempt to pressure Taiwan toward reunification. However, the report does not predict any direct military conflict.
Recently, the Chinese Communist Party has continued to send military aircraft to invade Taiwan’s airspace, and on April 12, a record 25 military aircraft were deployed to disturb Taiwan. At the same time, the Liaoning aircraft carrier formation conducted drills in the waters around Taiwan, increasing tensions in the Taiwan Strait. The ROC military has stepped up its preparedness for war, and allies such as the United States and Japan are preparing to jointly defend Taiwan.
The report also mentions the impact of Russia, North Korea, and Iran on U.S. national security, and focuses on non-traditional challenges such as global health. The report says the ROC virus epidemic will continue to pose a threat to the global population until vaccines and treatments are widely distributed, with economic and political ramifications that will last for years.
