Thailand’s Epidemic Command Center today (14) announced 1,335 new confirmed cases of Wuhan pneumonia, the highest number of new cases in a single day since the outbreak. The Thai government has asked civil servants to work from home as much as possible until the end of April, and several provinces have announced different restrictions on movement across provinces.
Thailand has 1,335 new confirmed cases of the Chinese communist virus (COVID-19, commonly known as Wuhan pneumonia), with 315 cases in Bangkok and 319 in Chiang Mai.
The total number of cases in Thailand has reached 35,910 by today, of which 97 have died, 28,322 have recovered and been discharged, and 7,491 are under hospital treatment.
The second wave of the Wuhan pneumonia outbreak broke out in Thailand in early January this year, and the epidemic gradually slowed down after the Thai government offered multiple control measures.
However, the Thai government announced on the 4th that 71 new cases were confirmed in Bangkok as well as in the surrounding entertainment venues of several provinces, making the Bangkok epidemic raise the alarm again. The government announced the closure of entertainment venues such as nightclubs or bars in 41 provinces from the 9th onwards, as traces of the British variant of the virus were found in Bangkok nightclubs.
The number of confirmed cases continues to climb, with the number of new cases confirmed in a single day exceeding 900 for three consecutive days from the 11th to the 13th, and today’s 1,335 new cases set a record for the highest number of confirmed cases in a single day since the outbreak early last year.
Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has asked all government employees to work from home as much as possible until the end of April, and called on private companies to let their employees work from home as well.
As it is during the Songkran (Water Festival) holiday in the Buddhist New Year, 43 provinces have announced different measures to prevent cross-province movement in order to avoid crowds, with some provinces requiring visitors from high-risk areas to be quarantined for 14 days and others requiring visitors to be tested.
