Turkey cuts off water to Chinese Communist Embassy, threatens to change the name of the neighborhood where the embassy is located

Turkish media outlet Milli Gazete has revealed that the municipality of Ankara, the capital of Turkey, is currently considering changing the name of the street where the Chinese Communist Embassy is located to Turkic Street, according to Sputnik. This may be in response to the Chinese embassy in Turkey tweeting back at Turkish politicians for criticizing the CCP’s human rights abuses in Xinjiang.

In early April, two Turkish opposition politicians, including Ankara Mayor Yavas, a member of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), and IYI leader Akseneyn, tweeted criticism of Beijing’s Xinjiang policy. Chinese Ambassador to Turkey Liu Shaobin responded on Twitter, saying that Xinjiang is an integral part of China and that China firmly condemns any infringement on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned Liu Shaobin to meet with him in response. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian, for his part, protested the stance of certain Turkish opposition parties at a press conference on April 7, adding that the CCP embassy in Turkey had acted perfectly correctly.

But soon the Ankara municipality began “repair work” to keep the CCP embassy without water.
