FDA recommends suspension of Johnson & Johnson vaccine Trump: political action

On Tuesday, April 13, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a joint statement advising the public to suspend vaccinations against Johnson & Johnson’s single dose of the Chinese Communist Virus (COVID-19) vaccine. Former President Trump (Trump) criticized the FDA and other agencies for the move, which is likely to be “politically motivated” and will cause “serious harm” to Americans.

Trump argued that long-serving “bureaucrats” within the FDA would do such a thing to “make themselves look important. He said the effectiveness of Johnson & Johnson vaccines is “extraordinary” and that the actions of these federal agencies have now “permanently challenged” Johnson & Johnson’s reputation.

He argued that because the FDA has a partnership with Pfizer, they may be doing this to Johnson & Johnson “for political reasons” or “because they’re friends of Pfizer.

“But they shouldn’t be doing this damage to Americans.” Trump denounced.

Trump also mentioned that the FDA announced the approval of the Pfizer vaccine two days after the 2020 presidential election because people at the FDA “didn’t like” him and didn’t want the early announcement of the good news against the Chinese Communist virus to help his re-election. In fact, Trump has been a major force behind the vaccine’s development and production efforts.

In a joint statement Tuesday, the FDA and CDC said that because six women between the ages of 18 and 48 all developed severe symptoms of thrombophilia after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. One of the women has died and one has been hospitalized and is in critical condition.

Both organizations say such side effects did not occur in people who received Pfizer’s Moderna vaccine. Therefore, they want to further review these cases and evaluate the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. They recommend suspending the Johnson & Johnson vaccine until the review is complete.

As of Monday, April 12, 6.8 million people across the United States have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Just after the FDA and CDC recommended the suspension of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, Johnson & Johnson’s stock fell 3 percentage points in response.

As originally planned, Johnson & Johnson had promised the Biden administration that they would provide 100 million doses of the vaccine by the end of May this year. But because of recent post-vaccination adverse reactions, several Johnson & Johnson vaccination sites have now been closed early.

But the White House said Tuesday that the suspension of Johnson & Johnson vaccines will not have a lasting or significant impact on the federal government’s vaccination program.
