John Lee, the mayor of North Las Vegas, Nevada, recently spoke with Fox News about why he left the Democratic Party and joined the Republican Party. John Lee, the mayor of North Las Vegas, Nevada, was interviewed by Fox News and gave a personal account of why he left the Democratic Party and joined the Republican Party.
Here’s what he had to say in the interview.
Like every Nevadan, I grew up in awe of America. As a child, we looked up to the flag and were proud of the freedom, opportunity and promise she represented and symbolized. Back then, we knew both parties, despite their political differences, had the same values.
Like many other Nevadans, I registered for the Democratic Party because it seemed to be a working class party. As a dishwasher who joined a culinary union, this was important to me.
But, just like President Reagan and President Trump (Trump), I have seen firsthand how the Democratic Party has radically changed, and not for the better (for the better). They have embraced a socialist, extremist agenda and are no longer the party of President Kennedy, nor the party my parents believed in. Their ideas hurt working class families, limit freedom, and stifle opportunity for millions of Americans, especially minorities in the working class. They (workers) deserve a chance to create a better life for their families.
As the Democratic mayor of North Las Vegas, I am proud to lead our city, both in times of prosperity and in times of hardship, as we have seen this past year. We Nevadans, and we Americans, are resilient. We live in the greatest country in the world, thanks to the values we hold dear. Yet, today those values are under attack.
In Nevada, we have seen the Democratic Party fully taken over by recognized socialists. Their goal is clear: to end the America we know and love and replace it with a socialist culture of conformity that will wipe out opportunity and freedom in America.
I will not let the America I love be hijacked by extremist leftist thugs. They blacklist anyone who disagrees with them, banning and removing their right to speak out.
That’s why I’m switching to registering as a Republican. Previously, although I had been a registered Democrat, my heart changed a long time ago because on some things, (I knew) there was simply no room for compromise.
That’s why I voted for President Trump twice. It’s also why I received an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association (NRA) and their endorsement when I was in the state Senate. I refuse to compromise, I support the value of (protecting) life, the Second Amendment to the Constitution.
In the Democratic Party, they used to have a place for conservatives like me, to accommodate the voices of conservatives like me. But that is no longer the case today. They call for meaningless devotion, the elimination of culture, socialism and the promotion of anti-American values, all of which I simply do not share.
I am not the only former Democrat who feels abandoned by the modern Democratic Party. I know there are countless other (Democrats) who want to convert because it means the question of whether their children and grandchildren will live in hope or despair. I hope they join me in making that shift.
Under President Trump, the Republican Party is a working-class party of opportunity, freedom and hope. I am not only making the switch to the Republican Party for my family, but also for Nevada (and to the Republican Party). I want every Nevadan and American to do the same.
The Great Seal of the United States is engraved with the words, “One among many.” The motto of our nation is, “In God we trust.” It’s time for people to come together and get things done; to stop the bickering and start fresh with the problems. It’s time to defend the America we love so that our children and grandchildren can share in the blessings we have.”
