On Qingming Festival, everyone goes to the grave to pay respects to their elders. I couldn’t go back to my country to offer a bouquet of flowers at my parents’ grave, so I offered a reflection to meet their expectation of me during their lifetime.
They probably never understood in their lifetime how the revolution they joined for the sake of a better life for the people and to stop being oppressed by corrupt officials and unscrupulous businessmen has ended up in this state. The people were even more severely exploited and oppressed than the corrupt officials of their day. They began to suspect early on and probably didn’t think it through in the end.
It is true that the people of their generation that I knew all risked their lives to join the revolution because they had a deep hatred for the old system and wanted to free the people from exploitation and oppression. But the Communist Party they themselves established has degenerated to the point where it is even more corrupt and brutal in its oppression of the people than it was then. I started thinking about this question a long time ago, and it was recognized by many people of the older generation. I remember that during the period of the Democratic Wall, several old communists who had just been released from prison asked for our publications and were interested in our thinking and explorations.
I think they started to compare ideals and reality at that time, and were thinking about what was wrong with them. Was it their passion to save the people from hanging by a thread that was wrong? Was their ideal of making the people of China free from oppression wrong? I think they are right, and that is why they still agree with me that I have inherited their youthful ideals.
But they were indeed wrong, so much so that the consequence of their revolution is that the common people are now being more severely exploited and more brutally oppressed; so much so that opposing the Communist Party and cursing it has become the political correctness in China today, and whoever defends the Communist Party on the Internet is immediately identified as a secret agent of fifty cents. Why did their passion and sacrifice have such a result?
That’s because they didn’t think seriously and chose a path of being deceived based on a passion or hatred. Simply put, they were fooled by Marx, the great deceiver, and then went on to deceive more people, eventually dragging their country into a century-long mud pit. Although there are various reasons for the disasters in China for more than 100 years, the biggest disaster comes from this big communist deception.
Why do you say that Marx was a great deceiver? Because right in his time, right next to him, France had a lesson in failure. The democracy established by the violence of the Paris Commune proved to be an even more brutal tyranny that eventually converted into an emperor’s system. It was the same end as in communist countries like China and the Soviet Union. Why then did he, Marx, fail to see and jump from the logical rigor cultivated in German universities to French and Italian-style pie-in-the-sky all of a sudden? This needs to be studied by historians. My conclusion is not complicated, it is the need for a hoax.
Like all charlatans in the world, Marx mastered the weaknesses of most people. Most people like simple and straightforward methods, the coolest results and the greed of the poor; but not deep thinking, imperfect results and an aversion to unevenness. It is because of these weaknesses, which most people have, that con artists are able to fool easily. It is because people don’t think deeply that the scam of the century has been able to succeed.
My father and his generation of hot-blooded young people were some of those who were more hot-blooded than thinking. There were very few educated people in China at that time, and these fooled intellectuals went on to fool even more people, eventually causing the whole country to go down the path of evil and bringing about a century of disaster. The combination of cult and chaos really magnified the disaster several times. The ultimate responsibility should be borne by the generations of leaders who started with Marx. But those who were fooled into following the cult and did bad things are also ashamed of the persecuted people and their descendants.
Now that young people have moved away from the Cultural Revolution and the June 4 massacre, they may be more receptive to the new big lull that followed communism, which is called patriotism. It was in the fervor of patriotism that the fascists did their crimes against humanity back then, and it was not Hitler and a few others, but the majority of the unthinking German public who were fooled by them. I hope the young people of China will not make the same mistakes of the older generations and will not be taken into the pit by the new generation of deception.
