On Tuesday (April 6), President Joe Biden said at a White House press conference that he has not yet spoken with Communist Party President Xi Jinping about the origins of COVID-19.
At a White House press conference on Tuesday to vaccinate 150 million Americans against the virus, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy asked Biden, “You mentioned that 554,064 Americans have died from COVID-19. Many families want to know how this happened and how it reached this level. Have you talked to Xi about the origin of the virus.
Biden replied, “No, I have not had a conversation with President Xi.”
Biden’s comments follow the release last week of the World Health Organization’s report on the origins of the virus investigation, which the White House later said was not transparent, lacked key data and was not well cooperated with by the Chinese Communist Party. The White House also mentioned that the next phase of the investigation should be conducted independently by international experts.
In its final report, the WHO mission concluded that the possibility of the virus leaking from the Wuhan laboratory was defined as “highly unlikely” and concluded that it was “very likely” that the virus was transmitted from a bat to a human through another animal, while the possibility of the virus being transmitted directly from a bat to a human or The possibility of transmission through frozen foods lies somewhere in the middle.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki said last week, “The report is missing critical data, information and access. It presents a partial and incomplete picture.” She said, “We believe there should be a second phase to this (investigation) process, and it should be led by international and independent experts. They should have unrestricted access to the data. They should be able to ask questions of people who are on the ground, and that’s a step that WHO can take.”
Psaki said U.S. medical experts are still reviewing the report, but the White House deemed it “out of compliance for now.”
Last week, just as the WHO report on the origin of the virus was released to the public, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian again said publicly at a regular press conference that the virus did not originate in China and that it originated at the U.S. Army’s Fort Detrick, Maryland, biological laboratory. Later, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying, also supported Zhao Lijian’s claim, pointing to the U.S. military lab as the source of the virus.
On Monday, the Washington Examiner, a State Department spokesman, said, “The United States condemns China’s (CCP) false, unfounded and unscientific claims that undermine the spirit and purpose of an impartial investigation into the origin of the virus.”
