On March 12 this year, the American science fiction movie “Avatar” was re-released on the mainland, and the weekend re-release box office broke 100 million RMB, and the single day box office and box office share were better than domestic films, ranking first. “Last night, I was up until two o’clock writing materials, but now I’m ready to study about buying tickets, but I found that I can’t find a place to buy tickets. A search, good guys, withdrawn from the file. How to say, really count the number of fingers a month, suddenly gone!”

“Why did they pull the movie? Why? You have nothing to do with Lord of the Rings by releasing your red movies! What’s wrong with you? Why should we give way for this? I’ve been waiting for a month. 2021 movies can’t beat movies from a decade ago. You don’t want to reflect on your own reasons, you want to exclude other movies? What’s the point of hiding the bell? I’m sorry I won’t watch any of them!”

“X’s, speechless, patriotic films and science fiction films have a conflict ?????”

More V mocks red movies: “The Lord of the Rings is pulled from the schedule and re-released as a war movie. Share a hot knowledge: take away the gold the sand will not shine!”

Many red movies have zero first-day box office

There are obvious political factors in the CCP’s strong push for red movies. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party. The Communist Party’s National Film Bureau reportedly recently issued a Notice ordering theaters to show at least two officially designated red movies per week from April 1 to December to coincide with the authorities’ propaganda activities. Some theaters are showing no less than five shows per week and are organizing screenings in rural areas, urban communities and campuses.

On April 1, eight red films were reportedly screened in mainland theaters, including the “anti-U.S. aid to North Korea” film “Kongo Chuan”, as well as “The Hundred Regiment War”, “Shangganling”, “Mine War”, “Little Soldier Zhang Ga”, “The Red Army of Women”, “Nanchang Uprising” and “Red Sun”.

The vast majority of the red movies strongly promoted by the CPC Film Bureau are old movies from the last century. (Web Image)

Among them, all six are old movies from the last century, except for “Vajrachuan” and “The Hundred Regiment War”. However, on the first day of the re-release, according to the mainland media, except for “Kongo River” and “The Hundred Regiment War” which made some gains at the box office, the rest of the re-release movies basically did not make any money at the box office. On the second day, only two films, “Kongo River” and “The Hundred Regiment War,” remained in the box office, while the remaining six films were also missing.

Some mainland netizens also said the reason for the withdrawal of “The Lord of the Rings”: “All went to see “The Lord of the Rings”, let others face where to put!” “The re-release of 86 “Journey to the West” has more people than the one who saw “King Kong Chuan”!”

According to Radio Free Asia, government propaganda departments in Fujian, Guangdong and other places have recently issued a document following the central government, urging local governments to organize people to watch so-called classic red movies. Fujian businessman Lin Minqing, on the other hand, said that he does not go to see officially designated movies regardless of official propaganda, “Basically, people I know inside don’t even watch TV, and many wealthy families don’t even watch TV dramas anymore. This (red film) can only be borne by private cinemas themselves. 5 screenings a week, should this cost be borne by the cinema itself?”
