According to the official Xinhua News Agency of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on April 7, the Xinjiang High Court disclosed for the first time that two local senior officials, including Shatar Sha’guti and Shirzati Bayudon, were sentenced to death at a press conference on Xinjiang-related issues in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) held recently.
The report said that the criminal group of secessionists led by Shattar Shaghouti, former deputy secretary of the Education Work Committee of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Party Committee, deputy secretary of the Party group and director of the Education Department of the autonomous region, and head of the leading group of the basic education curriculum reform of the autonomous region, compiled ethnic secession, violence and terrorism, and religious extremism into minority language textbooks and issued nearly 25 million copies in Xinjiang for 2.32 million Uyghur school students and tens of thousands of educators, and used them for as long as 13 years, causing extremely serious harm.
Another person, Shirzati Bayudon, who served as head of the XUAR Justice Department, deputy secretary of the Political and Legal Committee of the XUAR Party Committee, and deputy secretary general of the XUAR CPPCC, used his position as a leading Party member as a cover to plan and carry out secessionist activities, defected to the East-Iranian Movement, sold out the country and the people, and illegally sold out to people outside the country. He betrayed the interests of the state and the people, and illegally provided information to people outside the country.
The Xinjiang court sentenced Shattar Shagouti to death on charges of splitting the state and accepting bribes, and decided to execute him with a two-year reprieve, deprive him of his political rights for life, and confiscate all of his property; and sentenced Hirzati Baudon to death on charges of splitting the state, defecting to the enemy, illegally providing information to people outside the country, participating in a terrorist organization, aiding terrorist activities, using extremism to undermine the implementation of the law, gathering a crowd to disrupt the social order. He was sentenced to death, suspended for two years, deprived of political rights for life, and confiscated all his property.
According to AFP, the U.S. removed the East-Iraq Movement from the list of international terrorist organizations as early as November last year because there was insufficient evidence that the group still existed, and according to the United Nations, at least one million Uighurs and other Muslim minorities are being held in forced concentration in Xinjiang. The Chinese Communist Party denies the establishment of mass detention facilities in the name of “re-education” and “vocational training” and uses them to promote counter-terrorism propaganda.
