India’s new crown epidemic has worsened sharply, with the number of confirmed cases breaking 89,000 in a single day, a 6-month high, and some of the largest cities to implement stricter city closures and other epidemic prevention measures. The cumulative number of confirmed cases in India ranks 3rd in the world.
India’s Ministry of Health informed that the past 24 hours, the country’s new 89,129 confirmed cases, more than half concentrated in the wealthiest province of Maharashtra (Maharashtra), reaching 47,827 cases.
India’s capital, New Delhi, recorded more than 3,500 new confirmed cases, a new high this year, but the local chief executive ruled out the possibility of closing the city again at this time.
India’s daily confirmed cases have surged from 15,000 in early March to about 88,000 in early April.
The health ministry said there were 714 new deaths in India in the past 24 hours. Reuters statistics show that the number of new confirmed cases in a single day is the highest since Sept. 20 last year, while the number of new deaths is the highest since Oct. 21 last year.
India’s cumulative number of confirmed cases is second only to the United States and Brazil in the world, since the outbreak has been more than 12 million cases.
