Are Amazon employees in Europe and America forced to urinate in plastic bottles? That’s what Wisconsin Rep. Mark Pocan (D) tweeted eight days ago. On April 3, Amazon apologized to Mark Pocan himself, but pointed out that his tweet was untrue. Amazon said: the tweet did not take into account the drivers running on the outside road, pointing the finger at the cargo delivery center.
In a statement, Amazon said: every employee can leave their jobs, it does not matter to go to the toilet, a dozen times to go. Rep. Mark Pocan responded: It’s pathetic. This is not about me, it’s about your employees. You are not treating them with full respect; you are not treating them with dignity.
Wisconsin Rep. Mark Pocan (R) posted a tweet (Twitter message) saying that it is unfair that “Amazon considers itself a progressive workplace” because the company has historically been hostile to workers’ efforts to unionize and it has been hostile to Its focus on “maximizing worker productivity” has forced some workers to “pee in a water bottle” instead of going to the bathroom.
Just an hour and a half later, Amazon responded on Twitter. Amazon said: “You don’t really believe in peeing in a bottle, do you? If this were true, no one would be working for us.”
But it’s a fact that some low-level Amazon employees are reportedly forced to pee in bottles, according to internal Amazon documents seen by the media. And, the issue has raised concerns among Amazon managers.
Multiple Amazon delivery drivers and employees have told the media that they are under tremendous pressure to meet high performance metrics, and that urinating in bags and bottles is common in their warehouses. According to the report, employees have a hard time completing performance metrics unless they sacrifice time to go to the bathroom.
