Taiwan Railways Taroko accident 1 American, 1 French killed each

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said this afternoon (3), the victims of a new U.S. national, another fellow U.S. national is missing, search and rescue personnel are looking for. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out that Minister Wu Chiu-sup has called the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Director Li Yingjie to explain the situation, AIT has contacted the family to help deal with follow-up related matters. In addition, the French Association in Taiwan also confirmed that a French national was killed in the accident and has contacted Taiwan officials to handle the follow-up.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out in a press release in the afternoon that Minister Wu Chiu-sup had called AIT Director Li Yingjie to explain our assistance, the U.S. side expressed its gratitude, and has contacted the families of the two Americans, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also continue to work with AIT and other units to assist in follow-up matters according to the needs of the families.

Earlier, the U.S. Department of State announced at a regular press conference on the 2nd local time that the U.S. side is willing to provide all assistance in the hope that Taiwan can get peace and comfort in this difficult time, and expressed deep condolences for the accident.

As far as we know, the two foreigners who died were from the United States and France. The French Association in Taiwan also confirmed that a French national was killed in the accident, and said it had contacted Taiwan officials to take the necessary measures to assist in follow-up matters based on respect for the privacy of the family.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as of noon today, a total of 80 countries and international organizations, more than 600 heads of state, officials and diplomats have expressed their condolences and sympathy to Taiwan in various forms.
